DENDROBIUM 'Idong Prapa Fancy'

Idong prapa has beautiful flowers with dual colours - white petals and pink sepals. The lips are darker shades of pink.

Propagation by division

Dendrobiums are sympodial (new growth appears from the base of the old growth) and hence it is easy to seperate the young plants.

The rhizome below could be split with a sterile blade. It is good to leave at least 2-3 growths in each division. It is good to do this at the time of repotting.

Tissue Culture of Orchids

Tissue culture is used for mass production of desirable orchids. The tissue from the 'meristem' or the growing tip of the orchid is seperated and the cells are divided and grown in seperate jars or flasks with nutrient jelly.

This method produces similar plants in large quantities and such production account for the reduced prices for orchids in todays market place.
